Green development has become a benchmark of China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) over the past 10 years, officials and entrepreneurs said at the Summer Davos Forum in Tianjin on Tuesday, noting that infrastructure construction under the framework has connected the world together and brought lots of development opportunities for countries along the route.

Ten years on, the BRI has attracted the participation of more than 75 percent of the world's countries and major international organizations, and the relevant concepts have been written into the related outcome documents of the UN and other multilateral mechanisms, Liang Linchong, an official with the National Development and Reform Commission, China's top economic planner, said during a session of the forum on Tuesday.

He enumerated some achievements of the initiative during the last 10 years, including the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, which had created 236,000 jobs by the end of 2022, as well as the China-Laos Railway, a "golden corridor" that has sent 16.4 million passenger trips and 21 million tons of cargo since its operation.

Liang added that based on the connectivity in terms of policy coordination, road travel, trade, financial flows and people-to-people exchanges, China has stepped up efforts in the construction of a healthy, digital, green and innovative Silk Road, which has fostered new growth points for global development.

Sebastian Kurz, former Federal Chancellor of Austria, expressed his support for the initiative, saying that it is one of the most important initiatives in the world today as it has opened a lot of opportunities for cooperation between China and other countries.

Kurz added that the BRI has played a vital role in Austria's green transformation, and China and the European countries have large cooperation potential in electric vehicles in the future.

Sekai Irene Nzenza, Minister of Industry and Commerce of Zimbabwe, also stressed the BRI's role in her country's economic transition, adding that the country has a large power shortage and relies more on solar power, so it needs investment in solar and wind power to reduce carbon emissions.

Over the past decade, China has cooperated with more than 100 countries and regions on green energy projects, and has invested more in green and low-carbon energy than traditional energy in the countries along the route.

"Green is becoming one of the most vibrant colors of the BRI, and the future cooperation in energy transition has unlimited opportunities," said Xin Bao'an, Executive Chairman of the State Grid Corporation of China.

China has already built the world's largest clean power generation system, especially its new energy generation has exceeded 800 million kilowatts of installed capacity, which is far ahead of the rest of the world. "We not only have new energy technology, we also have high-quality products, so the initiative can provide countries with large-scale new-energy development solutions," Xin noted.

十年间，“一带一路”综合效益不断彰显。梁林冲举例称，中老铁路现在运营了一年半，时间不长，但客运货运都很旺盛，累计发送旅客达到1640万人次，货物2100万吨，“黄金大通道”的效应日益显现。

梁林冲强调，中老铁路不仅促进了中老两国的经贸合作，也促进了中国与东盟各国的经贸往来。“它更加重要的意义在于促进了整个区域的互联互通、经济发展，带动了沿线的旅游、农业等产业发展和城市化建设步伐。”

论坛上，奥地利前总理Sebastian Kurz表示，“一带一路”倡议为中欧、中奥之间的经济交流开辟了许多机会，而且，“一带一路”倡议不仅为中国，也为欧洲、中东、非洲和亚洲其他地区带来了很多增长机会，这无疑是迄今为止当今世界最重要的倡议之一。

津巴布韦工商部部长Sekai Irene Nzenza也表示，“一带一路”有助于促进贸易和投资，不仅是在津巴布韦，而且是在南部非洲乃至整个非洲。

关于绿色转型和应对气候变化，多位嘉宾一致认为，“一带一路”倡议可以发挥重要作用。

长期以来，能源领域的合作都是“一带一路”倡议的发展重点之一。国家电网有限公司董事长辛保安表示，在“一带一路”倡议下，国家间的能源转型合作机会无限。他称，中国已经建成了世界上最大的清洁发电体系，尤其是我们的新能源（风电光伏）发电总装机已经突破了8亿千瓦，在全球遥遥领先。

辛保安强调，“我们不仅有新能源技术，我们还有高质量产品，‘一带一路’能为各国提供大规模的新能源开发、并网、利用一体化解决方案。”

Profits at China's industrial firms shrank by 18.8 percent year-on-year in the first five months of 2023, which has narrowed from the 20.6 percent fall in the January-April period in the latest signal of steady industrial recovery, official data showed on Wednesday. Major industrial firms in May saw their combined profits stand at 635.81 billion yuan, down 12.6 percent from a year ago, narrowing from the 18.2 percent drop in April, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

Last month, the manufacturing sector posted better performance thanks to an array of supportive policies, with its profit decline narrowing by 7.4 percentage points from April. Equipment manufacturers saw combined profits rise 15.2 percent last month, and the profit decline of consumer goods producers shrank by 17.1 percentage points. The surging new energy vehicle sales helped make the auto sector's profits more than double. Meanwhile, the power, heating, gas, and water supply sectors also saw rapid growth, with their profits up 35.9 percent from a year earlier.

规上工业企业利润降幅连续三个月收窄：6月28日，国家统计局公布数据显示，今年1-5月份，全国规模以上工业企业实现利润总额26688.9亿元，同比下降18.8%，降幅比1-4月份收窄1.8个百分点。5月单月，规模以上工业企业实现利润总额6358.1亿元，同比下降12.6%，降幅较4月份收窄5.6个百分点。规上工业企业利润降幅已连续三个月收窄，呈现稳步恢复态势。

China's state-level economic and technological development zones have attracted more than 30,000 foreign-funded companies, the Ministry of Commerce said Tuesday. The country currently has 230 such development zones in 31 provincial-level regions, gathering more than 4 million enterprises, the ministry said at an event promoting the state-level economic and technological development zones. Over 300 Fortune 500 enterprises have established headquarters or research centers in these development zones.

Hong Kong's Securities and Futures Commission(SFC) is studying the likelihood of introducing block trades and other trading methods in the Stock Connect, said chief executive Julia Leung Fung-yee, who also revealed SFC is working to improve the Cross-boundary Wealth Management Connect and other schemes in the short run as she addressed a forum yesterday. The SFC will increase the number of derivative contracts in the market with mainland assets as underlying assets, she added. Commenting on the HKD-RMB dual counter, the chief of the city's market regulator said the daily turnover for the first week was about 197 million yuan (HK$213.87 million) on average only. Nonetheless, it signaled a good start for an ecosystem to allow more RMB products to be listed, said Leung.

Shenzhen became the first Chinese city to allow the use of the digital Chinese yuan in the prepaid business model, where customers pay a lump sum upfront to get discounts or better services from firms, when it rolled out the service earlier this week. The digital yuan helps to ensure the safety of consumers’ prepaid funds as it is traceable and cannot be tampered with, according to an official from the city’s market regulator.

China’s automobile imports plunged in the first five months as demand for imported fossil fuel-powered autos slides amid the transition to new energy vehicles, according to the latest data. China’s car imports slumped 28 percent from January to May from a year earlier to 280,000 units, according to a report released by the China Passenger Car Association on Monday. And they tumbled 18 percent in May to 58,400 vehicles. There is a clear drop in the imports of fossil fuel-powered cars which plunged 29 percent over the period while that of new energy vehicles soared 81 percent.

Hungarian airline Wizz Air, the largest Central and Eastern European low-cost carrier, took delivery of its first A321neo aircraft assembled at Airbus' final assembly line in Tianjin on Tuesday. This is also the first A321neo to be delivered to a European carrier from the Tianjin line. The aircraft is powered by Pratt & Whitney engines and has 239 seats in a single-class configuration. Wizz Air added that it will continue to receive over 300 deliveries in the next 6-7 years from Airbus, with some of them assembled in Tianjin.

Guangzhou Tinci Materials Technology announced that the major Chinese supplier of electrolytes and electrolyte chemicals for lithium batteries plans to build two overseas plants, one in the United States and one in Morocco. There will be other ways to secure funding as Aiko aims to raise no more than 6 billion yuan by issuing shares to specific investors to expand its crystalline solar cell project in Yiwu, Zhejiang province, while supplementing its working capital, the company said in a separate announcement.
